About the program

Reflections is a National PTA arts in education program. The program was started in 1969 and is the largest arts program of its kind in the United States.

Reflections is not “just an art contest.”  It helps kids take risks, be inspired, think creatively, and be celebrated for their creativity and work. Studies have shown there is a positive relationship between the arts and well-being.

Submission process

Each entry must be the original work of one student only. Students may submit an entry in any of six areas: Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts, Film/Video, Choreography/Dance. Note: 3D artwork will not be accepted at this time, only 2D. One student can submit multiple entries in each or across categories.

Reflections Division

Participation is organized by student age and grade levels. Student works are critiqued against others in the same grade division. This allows recognition and judging of artworks by appropriate developmental age and skill levels. The grade divisions are:

Primary: Preschool – Grade 2
Intermediate: Grades 3 – 5

Special Artist*:  All grades

* for students with a disability as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

Rules for Each Category (PDF):

Please review the rules for each category as LWSD Council does not accept any entries that deviate from the rules.

Entries are judged anonymously on creative ability and interpretation of the theme.
